Cheaha State Park

Cheaha State Park is a gold mine of mountain views. Being in Alabama, Cheaha State Park gets overlooked by many, but it is definitely worth a visit.

Cheaha State Park is the highest point in Alabama. It has two improved campgrounds and a semi-primitive campground as well. I decided to try out the semi-primitive. The sites are sub-par and won't be my first choice upon returning for a few reasons. First, few sites have electrical hook-ups that actually work and water spigots are placed sporadically throughout these sites. Secondly, to getting to the hiking trails requires a long bland stroll through the park passing by the improved campgrounds. However, Site 120 is great. It has fantastic views looking down over the mountain without any tree obstruction. I chose to stay at site 104, a site with electric hook-ups, so i could hook up the heater and keep my four legged friend warm!

This park is great for people looking to see incredible views with little effort to access them. Although I would not call Cheaha State Park camping at it's finest, the campgrounds are nice and the staff is very friendly and i had a great experience with them. The trails are abosolutely stunning. I will definitely be making a trip back to this park in the near future.

Don't forget to check out my post on the hiking trails here!
